What Are the Book Clubs Reading? -
There are several active Book Clubs in Cheshire, and this a sampling of some of the books that they have been reading and discussing recently.
- The 2008 Locus Award Winners include the best new science fiction and fantasy novels, short stories, anthologies, and more.
- Each year, the National Book Foundation celebrates the best of American literature in the fields of Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young people's Literature.
- Contains more than 7,000 categorized links to book sites around the world, including links to newsgroups, antiquarian booksellers and on-line library catalogs.
- An online Literary Criticism Collection that contains over 2500 critical and biographical web sites about authors and their works.
- LibraryThing is a catalog of over 25 million books on members' shelves, tagged by the members themselves. Use LibraryThing's Search function to find a book that you've read and enjoyed, and then use LibraryThing's Recommendations and Members Reviews to find similar books that you might also enjoy. Here, for example, is a LibraryThing entry for Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
Overbooked - Online since 1994, Overbooked is a website for ravenous & omnivorous readers. Specializing in literary and genre fiction information and readable non-fiction, Overbooked features booklists by genre, starred review lists, author connections, and a social space for the chronically overbooked.
Are you a FAN of a particular author?
If so, check out FAN, our Favorite Author Notification program. Choose your favorite authors from a list of almost two hundred current writers. Whenever the author publishes a new book, the Cheshire Public Library will automatically place you on the reserve list. No more filling out reserve slips, no more wondering "what should I read next?" Stop by the Circulation Desk and fill out a form. A staff member will be there to help if you have questions.
