Nutmeg Book Awards

The Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 2-12 to read quality literature and to choose their favorite from a list of ten nominated titles. Jointly sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association (CLA) and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians (CASL), the Nutmeg Committee is comprised of children’s librarians and school library media specialists.

Early Literacy Programs

These interactive programs are developed for caregivers of children from birth to five years. They promote early literacy skills that are essential for student success and also encourage caregivers to become active partners in their child’s education.

Baby Bop (0-12 months)

An early childhood music program for non-walking babies.

STEAM Explorers (12-24 months)

A mini storytime for toddlers featuring hands-on science and/or art activities.

Tales for Toddlers (18-36 months)

A storytime for toddlers featuring music, movement, and play.

Play & Learn (2-5 years)

A monthly playgroup and storytime for toddlers and preschoolers.

Preschool Storytime (3-5 years)

A literacy focused storytime for preschoolers with stories, songs, music, and play.

Programs for School-Aged Children

These educational and fun programs are designed for children who are in Kindergarten through 6th grade. They help promote creativity, improve social skills, and provide academic support in a safe, welcoming environment.

Caring Crafts (Grades K-6)

A program for school-age kids to have fun making things, while making the world a better place. Creations will be donated to shelters and nursing homes.
